No Bus Stops in your Living Room

No Bus Stops

Many modern homes have beautiful open concept design, but without defined spaces, it can be difficult to know what to put where. One of the main tenets of an open floor plan is to create areas yourself, and one of the best ways to do that is to create a circle of conversation.

By pointing furniture towards other seating pieces, you give guests a chance to face you and each other instead of winding up with the dreaded bus stop- a row of seating that all faces one direction. That’s fine for when you’re sitting next to strangers in a doctor’s office but your home should be inviting! So remember- no bus stops!

Also, furniture can float. Chairs and sofas don’t need to be anchored to a wall, but can sit freely in the middle of a space, especially if the chairs are on a swivel. Relying on the architecture of your home can be limiting and trying to define the spaces on your own is overwhelming, but that’s where I come in.

At Styling and Staging with Kristine, I love bringing together things you already own in new and creative ways. I’m always happy to help you pick out practical, functional and stylish pieces if you want or need new items, but your home should be a reflection of you. Your office should be a place that feels welcoming, but helps you be productive. I customize my design ideas to your tastes and personality; after all, you’ll be the one spending hours in your space.
